Oh, what a ride this has been! This is the first blog that I ever created, and it will not be the last. I really enjoy sharing my thoughts in a way that is creative and collaborative. A place that I feel comfortable posting what I think, and knowing that others are taking the time to read what I write. There is so much to learn in the blogging world, and the online world in general, and this space has given me the opportunity to explore that.
In this post, I am going to talk about 2 of the many case studies that “The Global Educator” has given us in our textbook. There are so many interesting topics that these case studies cover. They provide you with so many places that you can gain information and ideas for global learning.
Our Global Friendships
This case study talked about how different it was then to be a global educator than it is today. There are so many sources where you can gather ideas and connect with others who are on the same page as you. Before, you needed to find information and handouts in libraries and textbooks that were made for this. Now, all we need to do is google things and we are able to find the things that we need at our fingertips. This case study talked about the Skype call that a bunch of global collaborators were on, in which they came up with 100’s of ideas that were and can be used to help global friendships and collaborations.
THINK Global School: Learning To BE Global While Living Globally
This next case study is something that is different from many of them that are in the book. This case study talks about a school, with teachers and students that travel and spread information and awareness around the world. They focused on digital learning, and they adapted to the environment in which they were living for that semester. It is interesting to hear about these kind of things, things that are not so conventional, and they work. It is hard to imagine school in any other way in which it is now, which is why it is important to educate yourself on the things that are so different.
Overall
Case studies are a great way to learn about things, without reading them in such a structured way. You are able to understand what the information is about and what is being said, but you get to see it in action. This is different from a lot of textbooks in todays education. To be a better global educator, I have learned through this course, that not everything works for everyone and every student. There is so many different sources that you can pull from, and information and tools that you can use to make sure that you and your students are getting the most out of education!
