3 Easy Ways to Get Fired for Using Social Media

Lets face it… social media has its perks, but only when we use it the right way. Like anything every good comes with a little bit of evil.

The Overview

Social media is a blessing and a curse, and when it comes to professional and personal life, that is when it could become a slippery slope. Many people, do not think about what they are posting when they are posting it and how it could affect them along the way. Many times, this becomes the case for young professionals going through college, and not understanding that what they post can and will affect them for the rest of their lives. Lets dive into some easy ways to make your employer, not a happy camper with you.

Do not post anything at all pertaining to your employer!

Of course posting positive about your place of work and who you work with is not a negative thing at all, but with good always comes some bad. So just as we would get caught up posting the good, the same could happen for the bad, and without hesitation. Do not share anything that the company or district is doing publicly without their consent. This could get very dicey, only share ideas and plans that are your own. In all, just keep your employer off of your social media, and remember that you are a direct reflection of the company that you work for.

Do not talk about co-workers!

We all have friends in the workplace, but we also probably all have people that we are not to fond of. This idea is something to remember when you are posting on your social media. Remember that what happens on your social media outside of the workplace, that is about somebody else, could and most likely will be dragged into the workplace at some point in time, and you as the poster could get into a lot of trouble for that offense. Remember that just because social media is there for us to use on our own time, what we post about others could give us repercussions.

Remember Social Screening….

Nowadays, most employers look at your social media before even meeting you, maybe before even interviewing you. Posting things on social media BEFORE you get the job does not mean that it will not interfere with the fact that you might NOT get the job. There are many things that are acceptable and that are not when posting on social media, and to each his own, but do remember that whatever has your name all over it can and will be found, no matter the privacy settings you have put in place. You do not want to be invisible though, you want to have something to say and show your face in some way.
