My Twitter Experience

Hello! Welcome to my blog. This blog will be about my experience with Twitter. I have different social media apps but I was never a fan of Twitter. Since having to create one for this class, it has been a challenge but a great experience overall. I’m still getting used to how to use it but it wasn’t that hard once I started to figure things out.

My Thoughts

Creating Twitter was not hard. Learning where everything was and how to use it was the challenging part. I was a little frustrated at first having to use it only because I never wanted to have one. I had to look up what an avatar was since I had no clue what it meant. I couldn’t ask any of my friends or family because they don’t use Twitter. I always thought Twitter was just people saying what is on their mind 24/7. I have different social media but I don’t post a lot or share my every thought. I never thought that Twitter could be used for professional and educational purposes. Following people on twitter and making connections with people has been inspiring. So far the people I have connected with have been so nice and welcoming. I see a lot more positive than negative.

Have I learned anything significant?

I never thought I could learn by using Twitter. I at first thought we would just be engaging with students from the class but instead, we have been engaging with people from all over. For example, I can research articles to help me understand the various tools educators use and their experiences. I can also see examples of what other teachers use in their classrooms from their tweets or videos they post. Using hashtags is also helpful for finding posts on a specific category. My way of thinking has been more open. Twitter has taught me that social media can be used in other ways than just sharing pictures and getting likes or comments. People are willing to help those who reach out for help. They offer feedback and advice to one another

Twitter Chats

The first Twitter chat I experienced was a bit overwhelming at first. Figuring out a time I could attend one was the challenging part. I work full time and am a mother to 3 kids. My life is so hectic and by the time I get pa moment to myself (bedtime) I didn’t plan the first chat so well and wound up fitting it in my schedule. Once I entered the chat i found it very interesting and welcoming. The chat I participated in was caedchat. It was a chat from California. I stayed up late for this due to the time difference. I was a bit overwhelmed at first trying to keep up but once I got the hang of it I was enjoying answering the questions. Overall I enjoyed participating in the chat. I never knew a Twitter chat was a thing and didn’t expect the amount of feedback that was given.

I do not plan on working in the field of Education. I do not know if I will continue to use Twitter after this course is over but overall it has been a great experience. It gave me a different perspective on Twitter. It showed me how to make connections and be open-minded. It also gave me the confidence to ask for help and receive feedback.
