Hello! Welcome back to my blog. This week I watched a film called “Crazy Beautiful You.” I found this movie on Netflix. It was in Filipino with English subtitles. This movie took place in Capas, Tarlac in the Philippines.

Cultural Aspects of the movie:
As I watched this film I noticed differences between the characters. Some came from wealthy backgrounds and others came from a lower-class background. Jackie is a teenager who gets into trouble. Her parents want to teach her lesson if she wants to go to New York for school. Her mother decides to take her on a medical mission in Tarlac where she meets Kiko. Kiko becomes her escort and guide throughout the film. Kiko is the mayor’s son but does not live with him. He lives with his mom and siblings. His father has a family of his own. Kiko takes Jackie to a community where the medical mission will take place. Here she will find out how fortunate she is compared to others.
Similarities
There were many similarities in this film. Jackie uses her cell phone and her computer and posts on twitter like most teenagers do in the United States. In the film, they drove cars and also used bicycle rigsaws to get back and forth kind of like taxi services. I can relate to Jackie. Sometimes we take things for granted until someone else teaches us the bigger picture. Being able to travel the world at a young age I was able to understand different lifestyles and cultures and help give back where I could. It helped me to not take things for granted and be thankful for every moment in life.
Natural landforms
The medical mission was located in a remote mountain community. This is very different from New Jersey. Their Economic situation of the characters differed from one another. Jackie comes from a wealthy father. While participating in this medical mission she sees the difference between her life and the way these people live in the mountain. They are poor and many of the children are orphans. Kiko’s father is the mayor of the town and is wealthy. Kiko lives with his mom and younger siblings. His mom is absent most of the film and he’s seen taking care of his siblings. Feeding them, washing their clothes, running errands as well as taking orders from the mayor. Since Jackie is studying photography, she practices taking photos of people in the community. The people were fascinated by this and she was told that they never had a family portrait.

Overall
I enjoyed this film. It was more of a comedy but it taught the characters the value of life. It taught Jackie to look beyond her wants and needs and give back what she can offer. She took family portraits of everyone in the community and gave it to them as gifts since they never had a picture taken. She starts to have empathy towards Kiko for running his household while his mom kept disappearing and helping others out before thinking about himself. She decided to stay with her mom instead of going to New York because Kiko and the people of the mountain community opened her eyes to view life through a lens and have passion while doing so
