Great Times at LollaNoBooza

On Thursday, October 27th Stockton University hosted a one night event called “LollaNoBooza”.  This was a Halloween themed party open to the entire public.  The idea of the “NoBooza” is that there is an open bar with all non-alcoholic beverages.  I tried the cream soda float and personally, I thought it tasted very sweet and bubbly.  As soon as you entered the event room in the campus center there was darkness and flashing lights.  I saw multiple people dressed in costumes.  From witches to murderers to zombies.  There were about six stations where attendees could enter a spooky room filled with creepy characters and play a game.  If a student played a game and won, then they would receive a raffle ticket to enter into a prize drawing.  Once past the games there was an open dance floor with two DJs playing music.  This was a silent disco so, each attendee was supplied with a set of headphones.  The DJs were each broadcasting on a different station in which the attendees could switch between them for the duration of the party.  Halfway through the dance the dance team came in.  They stood in the middle of the dance floor and performed their routine for everyone.  It was fantastic to watch.  There was also a photo booth where anyone who wanted to could take goofy pictures with their friends.  There was a table full of costume accessories like hats, glasses, and fake mustaches.  I can honestly say that this event was a great time.  There were tons of people attending and the atmosphere was incredible.  My friends and I will definitely attend next year.

Cleaning for a Cause

On Saturday October 22nd, Stockton’s Habitat for Humanity Club hosted a street clean-up on 10th Ave in Dorothy, New Jersey.  This was a one-time-only event that was open only to members of Habitat for Humanity.  The event was slightly difficult to get to.  There was no communal transportation system.  Everyone was on their own to find a ride or carpool to take them to the clean-up location.  Attendees were also not informed as to which end of the street they were to meet, so that was a semi-confusing situation.  Other than the difficulty of getting to the location, the experience was wonderful.  For me, this was the first time I had met any other members of Habitat for Humanity.  I found this event a great way to meet new people.  Everyone was so kind and happy to be helping the environment.  At first it was a bit concerning because it was raining, however, just in time to start cleaning, the rain stopped.  Attendees were supplied with gloves and trash pickers.  The members were split into two groups: one started at one end of the street and the other group started at the opposite end.  Any piece of litter that was found was picked up a taken care of.  Everything plastic, aluminum or glass was put in a bag.  Then, any other type of garbage found was put in a separate bag to distinguish between recyclables and trash.  We all walked together and talked about are life goals and interests.  The whole situation was moving.  It was amazing seeing a group of young college students bonding while helping the environment and the world around them.  This was not a mandatory event.  Each person that came decided to voluntarily come and provide community service.

The Kahoot! Situation

On Wednesday September 14th, the Stockton Entertainment Team (SET) hosted Kahoot! Music Trivia Night in the Campus Center.  This event was a one-time only game night that all students were invited to.  Upon entrance to the Campus Center, SET members welcomed attendees and offered refreshments and candy.  All students were asked to combine into teams of four to work together when answering the trivia questions.  It was explained that each group should have one team captain that would use their phone to respond to the questions shown on the projector.  After each question was shown, there would be a few seconds given to discuss with teammates to decide which of the four possible answers was correct.  All of the teams were thoroughly enjoying themselves until there was a wireless connection issue.  One-by-one each team started to lose the connection between their captain’s phone and the trivia questions on the projector.  Phones were freezing left and right.  Multiple groups became frustrated and left the game entirely.  SET decided the only fair way to continue playing was to restart the whole question set.  For the groups that kept playing, it seemed like a great idea.  Everything was going smoothly during the retry game until it happened again.  Phones were losing connection again and participants started to become upset.  My team was doing great and getting all the answers right and we were all so excited.  We were in the top five on the leaderboard.  When the connection failed the second time, my team decided we were going to leave.  SET should not be blamed for the technical problems.  No one can control the strength of the wireless internet.  It was a shame about the connection issues because the event was put together so well and everyone was having a blast.
