How Technology Can Cost You A Job

In today’s day and age, technology is readily accessible, but is too much a bad thing? Depending on your career, your social and professional image should stay separate. The mixing of these could cost you a lot more than you think. Imagine sending your boss an embarrassing picture while you’re out at the bar and waking up to a “You’re fired” text. NOT GOOD! From my own work experiences, most jobs require you to not be on your cell phone while on the clock and will strictly enforce that rule. One of my former co-workers was fired on the spot for that exact reason. I read an article that explains how employers can fire an employee for text messages. “For one thing, your texts are not as private as you think. If you’re using a company-owned smartphone or tablet, your employer has access to your text history. Even if you delete your texts, they may be backed up in the cloud. But keep in mind that even if you’re firing off messages from your personal phone to a coworker or client, these missives might be going to their company phone, so your workplace can still pull those records. Or anyone can take a screenshot or download your text conversation, and show it to someone else.” Overall, if you’re at work wait until after work and if their’s something risky you want to post online just think. “Would my boss approve?”

  1. I agree social media has become a major problem in our society. We sometimes are not aware of little things as you pointed about the situation at the bar. You have to be careful of these things because anyone takes pictures and sends them to your boss. Also, think before you post something on social media because like you mentioned how embarrassing pictures can get you fired. Definitely, some important examples mentioned in your blog.
    Thank you

  2. one of the most important point you made is while using computers at a job site. An employer has access to your text history. It is so important in our world of social media to make sure what we post and say because it can get us fired from a job. Like an inappropriate picture or comment. I like the examples you made in your blog post.
