In today’s day and age, technology is readily accessible, but is too much a bad thing? Depending on your career, your social and professional image should stay separate. The mixing of these could cost you a lot more than you think. Imagine sending your boss an embarrassing picture while you’re out at the bar and waking up to a “You’re fired” text. NOT GOOD! From my own work experiences, most jobs require you to not be on your cell phone while on the clock and will strictly enforce that rule. One of my former co-workers was fired on the spot for that exact reason. I read an article that explains how employers can fire an employee for text messages. “For one thing, your texts are not as private as you think. If you’re using a company-owned smartphone or tablet, your employer has access to your text history. Even if you delete your texts, they may be backed up in the cloud. But keep in mind that even if you’re firing off messages from your personal phone to a coworker or client, these missives might be going to their company phone, so your workplace can still pull those records. Or anyone can take a screenshot or download your text conversation, and show it to someone else.” Overall, if you’re at work wait until after work and if their’s something risky you want to post online just think. “Would my boss approve?”
Case Studies
This week in class, we looked over the case studies on pages 229-244 in The Global Educator by Julie Lindsay. These case studies were very interesting because it showed how global collaboration is used in a professional setting. The first case study walks us through the Global Education Conference and how this example of collaboration has changed global education on the professional scale. This just the first example case study of the chapter, which is composed of 10 different detailed studies.

VR in the Real World
Virtual reality can be a useful tool in any line of work. In the classroom setting, it can help student develop a greater understanding or interest in a study or on a certain matter. These tools of virtual reality, like Gear VR, can be used to enhance global collaboration because it allows people to physically see things happening. This visual allows people to explore possible outcomes of certain interactions between beings. For example VR can be used to show what the earth will look like in 20 years based off the impact of humans. VR can be the next big tool in global collaboration.
Using Microsoft Sway for Digital Storytelling
This week I used the online tool, Microsoft Sway to create a story of my own. The website is very easy to use and is very well organized allowing you to efficiently tell your digital story. This tool allows the user to visually show the audience what they are trying to say in the form of almost a film. Follow this link to see the digital story I made about my best trait and what I believe it means to me: https://sway.office.com/EHkLWxLbxKcxe5mV

Out of Eden Walk: Out of Africa
In this weeks class we used the tool, Out of Eden walk. This tool is on National Geographic’s website and uses the photos captured by Paul Salopek of his journey to retrace the steps of early humans. I chose the chapter out of Africa and visited three milestones. I first visited milestone 2: Afar Badlands. It was was shocking to me that these first humans had to migrate in extreme terrain. The next place I went to was milestone 4: Red Sea. This was shocking to me because such it was a large obstacle that early humans had to get around without the luxury of today’s mobility. The final spot I went to was milestone 7: Red Sea. This photo shows how Paul is still out in the vast sea many days into the voyage. It makes me wonder how the earlier humans where able to move.

Norms 1 & 2 of Online Global Collaboration
This week in class we read about the norms 1 and 2. Being prepared and having a purpose are essential in any line of work but they are especially important when it comes to global connections. It is up to the person in charge to make sure that what they are saying is being understood by all parties. But the person also has to make sure that proper tools are available to all parties.
Google My Maps
Taking a trip to a new place can be confusing and frustrating not knowing the landscape. Wouldn’t it be nice to have in idea of where you’re going before you go? Now you can with the useful tool, Google My Maps. This tool not only allows you to see the surrounding stores, but to gain an idea of the terrain and to physically map out routes to take. This tool could eliminate the need for a travel agent and eliminate having to ask the local people for help. I know personally before I travel, I’ll look at Google My Maps and do a rough pre-trip tour.

The Difference in TV
Ever since I was young, I’ve had a sweet tooth for Japanese Anime. Recently I’ve been watching the show called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, a manga series written by Hirohiko Araki. From the first episode you can see the differences between Japanese and American anime. Male and female characters vary greatly in size and in the role they play. The food that they eat is more like the food in Japanese culture like noodles and seafood dishes. The show has a lot of fighting so it holds to the honor code of the Japanese culture so the fights are more respectful as to American anime. Other than those differences the show tries to mimic American “way of life”. My guess is the writer did this because he knew it would sell more.

What’s Twitter Really Like?
From my experiences so far on twitter, I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. Most of the time all three in the same day. Overall, I love using twitter! Through my school twitter I have been able to engage in intellectual conversations and see post that get me thinking about new topics or even worldly issues I didn’t know where going on. Like how the depletion of ground water is changing the landscapes around the world. But through my personal twitter, I see a lot negative interactions and spread of false or hateful information. How I see twitter it’s all about who you follow and what you want to see on your feed. So really it’s on you to see the good, bad, and ugly.
How Skype Can Be A Useful Classroom Tool
Skype is an application that allows a user to make a video or audio call to different user(s). If used in the classroom, it could allow for more communication between students and teachers or even student to student communication and learning. Techboomers, a YouTube channel, posted an informational video on how to use Skype. You can find that video here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S38e-t6rhKA. An example of how to use Skype in lesson plan is the Mystery Skype lesson. The detailed lesson plan can be found here, https://www.marsd.org/cms/lib7/NJ01000603/Centricity/Domain/37/Mystery%20Skype%20Lesson%20Plan.docx. Can you think of any other useful social media tools can have a classroom application?
