This week we’ll talk about case studies available that can enhance our experience and even take our global collaboration to a higher level. Case studies come in all forms and offer different techniques. Do you retain information better in a lecture type class or one that offers lots of visual queues? Maybe you prefer a class that has lots of different technologies in order to be excited.
In reading the final chapter of The Global Educator by Julie Lindsay where several case studies were discussed in summary form, there were at least two that really stood out for me: The Centre for Global Education and THINK Global School.
The Centre for Global Education like most case studies draws upon the principles of global collaboration and being a global citizen. However it does this with a heavy focus on technology. When monitored, technology can be an amazing tool for all users but especially true for the young mind. As student familiarize themselves with all things tech related, instinctively their young minds begin to incorporate creativity. Since these very students are our future, getting them to think early on in terms of global collaboration will eventually become the norm in their adult minds.
The second case study while still focusing heavily on technology is extremely unique in that it moves to different countries. This case study is called THINK Global School. This particular study really stood out for me as someone who had a very similar experience growing up. While living in Brooklyn, NY at one point, my family up and moved to Valley Stream NY, (in Long Island). Sure, the same state but vastly different neighborhoods. An even bigger change was when my family moved to the Dominican Republic just two years later. Living in another country where not only was the language different but also the culture, fashion, mode of transportation and even mannerisms was an immense shock! In time however, you begin to appreciate the uniqueness of each country and this is an experience that stays with you for life. For this reason, THINK Global School took the cake between all the other case studies. I will look into this for my own personal future.
