Global Learning – Closing the Gap

posted in: #GEN2108, Internet, Tech | 0

As we move towards a mindset that is more in tune with global learning and collaboration, we quickly begin to see hurdles of different types. I would like to focus on one of its biggest issues which is technology.

Global learning has many different areas that are required for it to work. Think of it as making your favorite lasagna recipe. If you were to omit any one ingredient, you simply would not have lasagna. One of global learning’s ingredients is technology. While some countries are wanting to be global citizens and share their many ideas, they are restricted by the lack of infrastructure technology requires. Having just a laptop or a computer will not solve the problem. At the very least, you’ll need numerous servers, specialized software, and IT professionals to manage it all.

Let’s say a particular country was able to resolve the issues mentioned above, there still may be other issues not so easily resolvable. Some countries feel that their culture and beliefs are being attacked by western values and views. Because of that, these same countries impose strict guidelines on the usage of the internet. How can we begin to change this type of mindset? How do we begin to close that gap?
The answer is not so simple. However, we can chip away at it, one classroom at a time. With time other countries will begin to understand that the concept of global learning is not to change ethnic culture but to share ideas in a meaningful and respectful environment.
